I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to attend this year’s Influence Conference. I snagged a ticket just days before the conference last year and went primarily because two of the women that I most admire, Shauna Niequist (pictured above with my great friend Kelly and me – we were star struck) and Lara Casey, were speaking at the conference. I know…I know, not the best reason for attending the conference. However, it was by far one of the highlights of my year. God used it to encourage me and push me to step outside my comfort zone in many ways. For that I’m incredibly grateful. I’m a better mom, friend, wife, daughter, sister, coach, and blogger because of what I learned at last year’s Influence Conference.
It’s hard to describe what it feels like to be surrounded by a group of women that you’ve never met, yet in a way you somehow know them because of your shared love for Jesus, blogging and social media. AWESOME is the best way that I can describe it. From the moment you walk into the conference room you have a bond with each lady there. Over the weekend we love on each other, cry with each other and encourage each other in God’s calling for each one’s life. At this conference, anything is possible.
Well, I’m excited to say that it’s time for this year’s Influence Conference and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me this year. I often feel like so much of what I do is for other people: my husband, my little men, friends, family, etc. This weekend is for me – a much needed time away to “fill my tank.” To seek God, ask Him to instill His desires for me in my heart, wait patiently for His gentle guidance, and just simply bask in His presence.
The Influence Conference is doing a little online “Meet & Greet.” A way for us to share about ourselves leading up to the conference so the ice is already broken (a bit)! But this is also a great way for you to get to know some fun things about me that perhaps you don’t already know. So here it is…
A Little About Me:
I’m Lauren. I’ve been married to Andrew (aka The Hubster) for 9 years (how is that possible?). We have 2 boys (my little men) – Christian is 5 and Atticus is 4 and live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I studied Vocal Performance and Nonprofit Management at Anderson University. I’m a Hoosier girl who loves coffee, vibrant colors, organizing anything and everything, fresh cut flowers, Disney, cooking, running, a warm bubble bath, a glass of sweet white wine, autumn and spending time with my family. I have always loved being busy (sometimes my downfall), so although I’m mostly a SAHM I also teach piano & voice lessons from home.
But that’s probably not why or how you began following me – 4 years ago my oldest was diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy to eggs. Not long after that my youngest was diagnosed with life-threatening allergies to dairy, soy, peanuts, tree nuts and sesame. Following my youngest’s first anaphylactic reaction to peanuts (8.5 months old), I created this blog. Writing about my little men, their allergies, and how our lives had to change due to their diagnosis was not only cathartic for me, but a great way for me to update family and friends about our needs. Of course, God had a much bigger plan for the blog than I did (He’s funny like that). With the rise in food allergies, my blog has allowed me to connect with other food allergy families and help them on their journey. I didn’t have someone to hold my hand through the learning process, but I feel incredibly blessed that I can be that for others. My prayers are that I would not only help other families find “safe” foods to nourish their family, but that I would also show them how to nourish their souls through Jesus! Well, there it is…me in a nutshell – anything I missed or that you’d like to know?
Part of the Conference That I’m Most Looking Forward To:
That’s hard to answer. Can I say ‘all of it?’ Seriously, the whole weekend is an experience and I’m not sure if I can truly narrow it down to any one piece. I guess if I was forced to – the session with Lara Casey, Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan. They inspire me and encourage me with their stories and passion for Jesus. I want to be just like them when I grow up.
Oh and I am blessed to be going with a two of my besties, Lindsay of SoulyFit and Andrea. Can’t wait to spend the weekend with them by my side! We are going to rock it!
One Thing I Won’t Leave Home Without:
That’s easy – a cute notebook (yes, it has to be cute), lots of my favorite pens (Le Pen) and a phone charger. I’m totally old school when it comes to note taking. I want some good old-fashioned paper for my notes – maybe even a trapper keeper. And I’ll need that phone charger because I know my phone will struggle to keep up with all of the photos I’ll be taking, digits from new friends I’ll be inputting, and tweets I’ll be tweeting.
How about you? Will you be there? If not, follow along and come next year!
